NASA “CASSINI SCIENTIST FOR A DAY” Contest
Opportunity for Students – to Interact with Mission Scientists of Nasa through Video Conference
Planetary Society India is happy to inform that it has been appointed as National Point of Contact for organizing NASA’S “Cassini Scientist for A Day” Contest by CASSINI PEOPLE OUTREACH DIVISION, JPL, NASA. Further N. Sri Raghundnan Kumar, has been approved as National Coordinator for this activity.
11 States Including Andhra Pradesh : Society now with support of Andhra Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (APCOST), Govt of A.P and 11 Member Networks will organize the contest all over India.
Workshop /Special CD/Website : Society in order to equip students with sufficient knowledge is organizing series of “Cassini Scientist for a Day” Workshop in Hyderabad. Topics like Cassini-Huygens Mission to Planet Saturn, Info about Planet Saturn, Ring System, Sixty Moons of Saturn etc… through audio-visuals would be covered for the benefit of students in Hyderabad.
Whereas through its Network members would distribute “Special Interactive CD” and coordinate Schools sessions for the benefit of students in other States and Districts. Importantly schools can also use the resources online.
Invitation to First Workshop:
Society invited School Students through their school management to attend the first in series of workshops which was held on 27th November, 2007 at St.Paul’s High School, Hyderguda from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 Noon .
Session through Interactive CD provided by Society : Apart from above workshop an Exclusive Session on request for Students of "Kenndy High School, Kukatpally" using Interactive CD was organized, whereby 10 teams of students attended the session.
Second Workshop :
Little Flower High School, Abids : Date 1st December , 2007
Third Workshop :
St.Joseph's High School, King Koti : Date 3rd, December, 2007
Fourth Workshop : (not finalised)
Suprabhat School : Date 4th December, 2007
Activity 2: After Workshop/Session:
I) Participants of Workshop would write an essay of 500 words individually.
II) Participants after above would form Team of 10 Members and would write an Essay of 500 words collectively.
Last Date of Submission of Essays: 6th December, 2007.
Note : 1. Interested School Students (Classes 5th-7th & 8th to 10th) are eligible to attend the above workshops. Students Can call us for a "Letter to School" in order to take the above info and other requirements to the notice of School Management.
2. Interactive CD Session with/without resource person on request can also be considered by the scoeity.
